Building a Website is Harder Than an Engine. Or is it?

Did you know that more than 50% of small business don’t have websites? It’s cheap. It’s easy to do. Yet over half of small businesses don’t have one. Don’t let something so simple be the thorn in your businesses paw. Let’s get you started.

Step 1: Choose A Website Building Platform

The quickest way to build a website is through a Content Management System (CMS) like WordPress, Drupal and Joomla. This makes designing and customizing your website a lot easier and requires no previous website knowledge.

I would personally recommend WordPress simply because it’s simple. WordPress is free, mobile-friendly, and extremely beginner-friendly. Companies like Facebook, eBay, CNN and NASA used WordPress to create their website.

Step 2: Pick a Domain Name and Web Host

In order to get a website online you need two things:

A domain name (website address like yourbusiness.com)

Web Host (a service that connects your site to the internet)

Remember that WordPress is free but the domain name and host will cost you around $5 a month. Having your own domain name looks a lot more professional than a generic one. A host will ensure your webpage loads quickly and doesn’t go down. You could go with another domain website such as GoDaddy or BlueHost, but the only thing that’s changing, for the most part, is the month to month price.

Step 3: Start Making Your Website

If you went with WordPress just sign up, download and log in and follow the instructions. Remember these tips on your website

  • Make sure to include your contact information, address and hours of operations
  • Keep your website up-to-date!
  • Add links to your social media profiles on the website
  • Don’t be afraid to play around with themes and content
