Stolen NASCAR?

At 5:30am on February 27th, Team Xtreme Racing’s trailer was stolen. Inside the trailer was the car that Travis Kvapil was supposed to drive in Sunday’s race. Without a car to drive, Kvapil did not make qualification and will be unable to race which understandably upsets him.

“I’ve never heard of anything like this. It’s really bizarre,” Kvapil said. “You can handle maybe getting a flat tire, or getting caught up in a wreck, or a blown engine, something that actually happens on the race track. Or you don’t qualify, because you don’t have enough speed. But to not even get a chance … that’s pretty disheartening.”

So far the police are currently looking for the trailer, but they don’t have much to go on. They are hoping to find the trailer abandoned in a parking lot. Most of the time, when people steal trailers they are hoping to find something they can sell inside. Kvapil thinks they will be quite disappointed when they open up his trailer.

“They’ll open it up and say, ‘Oh my God, this is not what we thought it was. Let’s get out of here.’ And they’ll take off and leave it sitting there. We’re hoping that will be the situation so he can get back to his races this weekend, because they drove quite a distance to participate.”

Trailer contained an engine worth $100,000 and other items that value over $17,500. If you include the $250,000 car, the thief dove away with alot of value in merchandise he won’t be able to sell. After all, what is someone going to do with NASCAR car other than joy ride? Would they keep it and hope no one notices?

A small team, Xtreme Racing was excited to have Kvapil join the team and the promise this new season holds. Competing against NASCAR giants like Joe Gibbs Racing and Hendrick Motorsports, this setback could be a devastating blow to their group.

Aside from the negatives of losing a car, Kvapil has had other problems to deal with. Many are saying that Kvapil’s inability to race this weekend is karma for the lack of punishment for him when facing charges of domestic abuse. Recently bench Kurt Busch is undergoing similar circumstances and has been forced to step down indefinitely, but Kvapil was allowed to race.

Americans loves good underdog story so we wish Xtreme Racing and Kvapil the best of luck in the upcoming season.
