You’re Awesome. They Aren’t. Guide To Beating The Competition

Competition is everywhere. Every business in the world has some form of competition. Some studies suggest competition is a good thing because it gets the business to work a lot harder for their customers. This ensures that the consumer gets the best product or service. If the customer doesn’t find that then there is another business to offer a similar service. If Starbucks messes my coffee up then I’ll go down the street to Dunkin Donuts. So is good service the secret to beating the competition? Well, good service doesn’t hurt but there are defiantly some other keys to beating the competition.

1. Focus on you.

Steve Blank, Silicon Valley tech entrepreneur, says that the only player an entrepreneur needs to be concerned with is the one staring back in the mirror.“If you’re worried about competitors, you’re already out of business,” Blank says. “The only people who can put start-ups out of business in the first 18 months are themselves. You still need to keep an eye on the competition but don’t obsess over them. Focus on you and start by obsessing over customers, not competition.

2. Create a customer database.

The Pareto Principle states that 80% of your revenue comes from 20% of your customers. This is an import factor because customer loyalty is one of the most important things to a local business. Relationship marketing is key because you want your customer to feel something when they come into your shop. Key logic is “make every customer into a friend by caring first about their life before asking for their money and it will be hard for any competition to steal them away!”

3. Break the norm.

Attracting new customers can be very difficult for small businesses. One of the best ways to differentiate yourself from the competition is to be different. Research local businesses around you and find out what they don’t have and get it. Get those customers to break from them and come to you, and “wow” them with your service! What if instead of an ordinary waiting room you had a “relaxation lounge”? Don’t be afraid to be different.

4. Connect with the community.

You have an advantage over those big international companies, your community. There is nothing better than helping out your community and yourself at the same time. Volunteer or donate money to a local school and show customers that you care about improving your community. This will get your name out there and give your company a great name.

5. Gain Competitive Advantage.

No two businesses are alike. Give the consumers a reason to seek out your business rather than your competition. Build something unlike each other auto shop out there and get ready, because clients are coming. Define yourself and your business. It is the businesses that don’t stand for something that often get eaten up by competitions.
